4th June 1944: Doug and Tony materialise in Cherbourg, just as three French saboteurs escape from a German prison. Caught up in the confusion, the two time-travellers are captured by German troopers and taken to see Major Hoffman of the Gestapo; as the major interrogates them both for information on Allied plans, Doug and Tony see a nearby calendar and realise that it is two days before D-Day. Doug is taken to the sadistic Doctor Kleinemann for use in his the scientist’s research into brainwashing; as part of Kleinemann’s experiment, Tony is deliberately allowed to escape, and he soon meets up with the three saboteurs, Duchamps, Mirabeau and Verlaine. Tony’s attempts to convince them to help rescue Doug meet with no success, but the trio do agree to let him join them in their mission to blow up a local refinery. Meanwhile, a brainwashed Doug now believes that he is a Nazi captain named Krueger - and that Tony is an enemy who must be eliminated…
Cliff-hanger: Doug and Tony arrive in separate areas of a medieval English castle. Trapped in the dungeon, Doug is faced with the prospect of torture...
